Research at Night

Mittweida University of Applied Sciences (HSMW) is one of Saxony's most traditional universities of applied sciences, founded in 1867 as a technical college. Today, it is among the leading universities for applied sciences in the fields of engineering, media, and business. Once a year, it invites all interested parties to the Night of Science – a six-hour spectacle that transforms the campus into an open stage for research.

Labs, Studios, Lectures

From 6 PM to midnight, all departments open their doors: laboratories, studios, workshops, and lecture halls. What usually happens behind closed doors becomes visible:

  • Interactive experiments to participate in (for children, teenagers, and adults)
  • Lectures by professors on current research topics
  • Presentations of the departments: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Information Engineering, Media, Business Administration, Social Work, Laser Technology
  • Encounters with students, staff, and professors – ideal for pupils considering higher education

Mittweida and the Saxony Location

Mittweida in the Mittelsachsen district is a classic Saxon university town – compact, with a historic town center, market square, and the Mulde riverbank. The Night of Science fits into the city's active festival year, which also includes the Campus Festival, the Old Town Festival, and smaller events. In the state of Saxony, whose educational and research landscape is particularly dense (TU Dresden, Uni Leipzig, TU Chemnitz, BA Saxony), Mittweida is a magnet for new students from all over Germany.
