Student Festival on the Technikumplatz
The Campusfestival Mittweida is one of Saxony's established student festivals — organized for years by students of the Media Management program at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, together with colleagues from Media Technology. On June 16th and 17th, 2026, the Technikumplatz on the historic university campus will transform into a colorful festival world. Mittweida is a small university town in the Mittelsachsen district (State of Saxony), located between Chemnitz and Leipzig. The Mittweida University of Applied Sciences — the oldest private engineering school in Germany, founded in 1867 — is one of the city's defining institutions with around 7,000 students.
Student Organization
The festival serves as a practical learning environment for the university's students: Marketing, event management, stage technology, artist booking, sponsoring, communication — everything is implemented as part of the study projects for the Media Management program. Media Technology students are responsible for lighting, sound, and stream production. This practical orientation gives the festival its unique character: technically and communicatively professional, atmospherically student-unconventional.
Program and Stages
The program includes live concerts, DJ sets, dance, and performance acts on the main stage at Technikumplatz. Local bands from Mittweida and the region alternate with national acts. Various food trucks (with vegetarian options) and drink stands cater to the audience. Payment is accepted in both cash and card. Rain ponchos are available for €1 in case of rain — the festival is an all-weather event.
Open to All
Unlike some university festivals, the Campusfestival is not exclusively for students: it is open to students, university staff, families, and the citizens of Mittweida. This mix is part of the concept — the university integrates into the city, and the city participates in university life. Visitors from Chemnitz and Leipzig also attend — travel from Chemnitz by City-Bahn is particularly entertaining: the organizers often have a DJ on the train to create a festival atmosphere right from the start of the journey.
Age Rules and Practicalities
For individuals under 16, accompaniment by an adult or a signed parental consent form is required. Teenagers between 16 and 18 need a completed parental consent form. Tickets are sold via the Pretix platform. Bringing your own food and drinks is not allowed; bags will be checked at the entrance. A safe and friendly festival atmosphere with sufficient security personnel is guaranteed.
