Traditional Spring Fair with Grand Parade on the Hellweg
The Gösselkirmes is the identity-defining spring fair of the town of Geseke on the Hellweg. For four days, the town center becomes a stage: livestock and goods market, carousels, stalls, a parade that ranks among the largest in Westphalia — and a fireworks display that attracts generations. In 2026, the fair runs from May 7th to 10th.
The fairgrounds extend across Mühlenstraße, the Marktplatz, and now again the Noltenhof. The central attraction in 2026 is the 40-meter-high "Big Ben" swing carousel. In addition, there's Breakdance, bumper cars, and numerous other classics.
The event kicks off on Thursday, May 7th, 2026, with the livestock and goods market starting at 11 AM. Mayor Remco van der Velden will officially open the fair, and at 3 PM, there will be free rides on the carousels. The traditional weekly market is canceled this Thursday due to preparations.
Friday, May 8th, 2026, is all about music: Roadcrew will perform from 8 PM on the central stage. The highlight is the fireworks display at 9:45 PM — a new feature since 2026, as the fireworks date has been moved from Sunday to Friday to better involve families.
The centerpiece of the Gösselkirmes is the parade on Saturday afternoon: At 2 PM, the parade will start with 15 float vehicles, 16 walking groups, and 16 brass bands. The 2026 motto is "Inventions of the World" — anything from machines to medicine, communication, and space travel is welcome. The parade winds through the town center, flanked by thousands of spectators. Traffic restrictions will be in effect during the parade.
Sunday, May 10th, 2026, is Family Day with shops open for Sunday trading and a large children's flea market in the town center. The carousels will continue to operate, and the holiday atmosphere makes for a relaxed day.
Geseke is located in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia, right on the old Hellweg trade route between Soest and Paderborn. The town boasts a history of over 1,200 years and is nestled in the agriculturally rich Hellweg region. The Gösselkirmes — the name derives from the dialectal word for "goose" — has long been the most important festival of the year.
The 2026 edition brings two significant changes: The fireworks move from Sunday to Friday (more family-friendly), and the Noltenhof area is reintegrated into the fairgrounds. A small section of Bachstraße is no longer part of the grounds.
Free admission. Rides and stalls are paid for individually.
