24-hour bike race, amateur distances, and time trials on East Germany's fastest asphalt
The DEKRA Lausitzring near Klettwitz, part of Schipkau in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, is one of East Germany's largest motorsport and event locations. With its long straights and extensive infrastructure, the circuit is perfectly suited for a 24-hour cycling event: an 11.3-kilometer lap course, flat, traffic-free, with permanent timing and support. In September 2026, the VELOFONDO Bike Festival will be held here on its 11.3 km flat course – one of the toughest yet most accessible cycling events in Brandenburg.
The program is deliberately broad – from introductory formats to extreme endurance. The "Vuelta" (2 hours, €70) and "Giro" (4 hours €90 / 8 hours €110) time trials are aimed at beginners and club riders. The 68 km (€70) and 100 km (€90) amateur distances are classic mass-start cycling races on the high-speed circuit. The centerpiece is the 24-hour race – solo (€150) or in a team of 2 to 8 riders (€280–€920). Registrations have been open since December 2025.
What makes VELOFONDO unique: Riders stay directly by the track, in the rider paddock – typical for motorsport, unusual for a cycling event. Motorhome, caravan, or tent: anything is possible. This creates a festival atmosphere that encompasses the race and makes the long 24 hours a shared experience.
Each registration includes individual timing, personal race number, finisher medal, free use of the Riders' Lounge with catering, free changing rooms, and initial medical support. Main sponsors are Red Bull and GRUBER Fahrzeuge, with further support from DEKRA, Eastern Tour, and High Five Nutrition.
Schipkau and the surrounding Lusatian Lake District (Lausitzer Seenland) are among Brandenburg's most exciting tourist regions. After the end of open-cast coal mining, Europe's largest artificial lakes have formed here – perfect for combining a sports weekend with an outdoor holiday. Those spending the weekend at the Lausitzring can explore the rest of the region: Senftenberger See, Geierswalder See, IBA-Terrassen.
The 2026 festival combines three race formats in parallel on the same 11.3 km flat course: the 24-hour race (solo or in a team of 2–8 riders), the 2, 4, and 8-hour time trials, and the classic 68 and 100 km amateur distances. Start times are staggered so that the different fields do not interfere with each other.
The included services package comprises individual timing, race number, finisher medal, use of the Riders' Lounge with catering, free changing facilities, and initial medical support.
