The Gut Vorwerk and its History

Gut Vorwerk is located near Glowe and Breege, in the north of the island of Rügen, nestled in a vast landscape of fields and meadows between Tromper Wiek and Großes Jasmunder Bodden. The documented history of the estate dates back to the 16th century, when the complex belonged to the typical Mecklenburg-Vorpommern manor economy with a manor house, utility buildings, and extensive lands. Today, the estate is privately owned and lovingly restored — parts of the manor house have already been renovated, while other buildings are still awaiting their restoration.

What is the MittsommerRemise?

The MittsommerRemise is a statewide event that takes place every year on the weekend around the summer solstice. Around 80 manor houses, castles, and stately homes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern open their doors simultaneously — from the Mecklenburg Lake District and Mecklenburg Switzerland to Vorpommern and the islands of Rügen and Usedom. The statewide event is organized by MV Tourismus GmbH; it is part of the 'European Cultural Route of Baltic Manor Houses'. 2026 marks the 24th edition.

What is offered at Gut Vorwerk

On both days of the festival, Gut Vorwerk offers an attractive program:

• Regular guided tours through the manor house and the estate grounds — the owners share the history of the estate, show restoration progress, and provide insights into the life of a Pomeranian manor economy
• Regional gastronomy: Estate cider (apple juice from own production), wines, homemade potato soup, coffee, and cake
• Park and garden visits with old trees and meadows
• Summer solstice celebration in the evening (weather permitting) with campfire atmosphere

Significance of the MittsommerRemise on Rügen

The island of Rügen has numerous historic manor houses and castles — from Spyker Castle (near Glowe) to Putbus and Granitz Hunting Lodge. Many of these houses are privately inhabited or under renovation, and the MittsommerRemise is often the only opportunity to visit them during the year. It is therefore an important anchor for cultural tourism on the island, connecting architectural heritage with lived present.
