Lower Rhine Pentecost Tradition for Over 500 Years

Unges Pengste (Lower Rhenish for "Our Pentecost") is the most important Schützen- and Heimatfest of Korschenbroich — and one of the oldest Pentecost festivals in the Lower Rhine region. The organizing St. Sebastianus Bruderschaft 1504 e.V. is over 500 years old, the younger St. Katharina Junggesellen Bruderschaft 1708 e.V. is over 300. From May 22nd to 26th, 2026 (Pentecost), the town celebrates five days of continuous program.

Pentecost Friday, May 22nd, 2026 — Kirmes Opening

4:00 PM — Kirmes Opening Matthias-Hoeren-Platz

Festival kickoff with the opening of the Kirmes on Matthias-Hoeren-Platz — a classic folk fair with carousels, bumper cars, game stalls, and food stands. The Kirmes runs for the entire five days.

Pentecost Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 — Evening Party

7:15 PM — Honor Company + Honor Dance

7:15 PM: Honor company parade with court ladies. 7:30 PM: Shooting party, beer tapping, honor dance in the festival tent.

Evening Party with Just:is — €15

The band Just:is plays the Saturday evening party in the festival tent. Organizer: St. Katharina Junggesellen Bruderschaft 1708 e.V. Ticket €15 (online only).

Pentecost Sunday, May 24th, 2026 — King's Parade & Remember Band

9:00 AM — Church Service St. Andreas

Morning church service in the parish church of St. Andreas Korschenbroich.

10:00 AM — Morning Assembly with Decoration

Assembly of the marksmen, decoration of the festival floats.

3:45 PM — Senior Citizens' Serenade

Marksmen visit the senior citizens' home with a musical serenade.

5:00 PM — King's Parade & Grand Zapfenstreich

The King's Parade with the reigning King and Queen through Korschenbroich, concluding with the Großer Zapfenstreich (Grand Tattoo).

7:30 PM — Evening Party with Remember Band — SOLD OUT

Pentecost Monday, May 25th, 2026 — Parade & King's Ball

10:00 AM — High Mass & Procession

High mass in St. Andreas and procession through the city center.

12:45 PM — Grand Parade with Flower Corso

The grand parade with flower corso is the visual highlight of the festival — decorated floats, marksmen in uniform, music bands, court ladies, the King and Queen. One of the most beautiful parade traditions in the Lower Rhine region.

7:30 PM — King's Ball with The Real Tones — €11

Pentecost Tuesday, May 26th, 2026 — Frühschoppen & Pearls

10:00 AM — Ecumenical Shooting Service

Ecumenical church service in the parish church of St. Andreas followed by a marksmen's Frühschoppen (morning pint).

11:00 AM — Family Frühschoppen with Erftblech — FREE

Family-friendly Frühschoppen in the festival tent with the brass band Erftblech. Free admission.

6:30 PM — Grand Parade with Flowers

Second day of the parade — the "small" Pentecost Tuesday parade.

8:00 PM — Festival Tent Finale with Pearls — FREE

Festival finale: Festival tent party with the band Pearls. Free admission. Organizer: Pentecost Committee of Korschenbroich Brotherhoods.

Ticket Pre-sale April 11–12, 2026

Ticket pre-sale takes place on April 11th and 12th, 2026, at the Alte Schule Korschenbroich from 12 PM to 4 PM. Online tickets via unges-pengste.de. The parade grandstand costs €7 (via the city's cultural office).

Korschenbroich on the Lower Rhine

Korschenbroich is a Lower Rhine town in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district (North Rhine-Westphalia) with about 33,000 inhabitants. The districts of Korschenbroich, Glehn, Pesch, and Liedberg together form the city. Unges Pengste is an identity pillar of the city — five days when the whole town is in a festive atmosphere. The Pentecost festival has its roots in medieval civil defense and religious brotherhoods.
