Experience the Augsburg Water Management System
Augsburg, a district-free city and the center of the Swabia administrative region, has been home to an extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019: the historic Augsburg Water Management System with its canals, water towers, fountains, and hydropower plants, which has grown over centuries. On the nationwide UNESCO World Heritage Day, the city focuses on this heritage.
The World Heritage Office of the City of Augsburg invites you to numerous hands-on activities and guided walks for all ages. The diversity of tour formats is particularly noteworthy: there are family tours, offerings exclusively for children, and tours in Easy Language, Sign Language, English, Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Russian. This ensures that the heritage is communicated in an intentionally inclusive and international manner.
The UNESCO World Heritage Day in Augsburg is held under a unifying motto of peace and understanding. The city, also known for the Augsburger Hohes Friedensfest (Augsburg High Peace Festival), connects its water heritage with open, multilingual communication. The World Heritage Day is thus a significant contribution to cultural education in Bavarian Swabia and provides low-threshold access to a globally unique technical cultural heritage.
The 2026 edition of the UNESCO World Heritage Day in Augsburg takes place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 10 AM to 5 PM, under the motto "Together for Peace and Understanding." The World Heritage Office of the City of Augsburg invites you to various hands-on activities and guided walks for all ages around the Augsburg Water Management System, designated a World Heritage site in 2019. There will be family tours, offerings exclusively for children, and tours in Easy Language, Sign Language, English, Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Russian. Numerous partners – including Stadtwerke Augsburg, museums, Zoo Augsburg, and the tourism agency – are participating in the program.
