About Dampf Rundum

Since 1993, every two years the Flensburg harbour transforms into a stage for steam power for three days: historic steamships dock at Nordertorkai, steam locomotives puff along the quay, and steam engines clatter on the festival mile. With boat trips, children's theatre, concerts on the NOSPA stage, and a grand fireworks display, Dampf Rundum is one of Northern Germany's most maritime festivals — according to the organiser, even Europe's largest of its kind (measured in horsepower).

Europe's Largest Steam Spectacle

Since 1993, Flensburger Dampf Rundum has been one of the most defining events in Flensburg's city calendar — and, according to the organiser, Europe's largest steam spectacle, measured in horsepower. It takes place every two years; 2026 is another festival year.

Three Days of Steam Power in the Historic Harbour

The organiser is Historischer Hafen Flensburg gGmbH, which transforms the traditional Nordertorkai into a maritime stage for three days. Historic steamships from all over Northern Germany and Scandinavia dominate the water — they shuttle between the quays, offer trips on the Flensburg Fjord, and sometimes engage in spectacular steamer regattas.

Steam Locomotive and Steam Engines on the Quay

An entire "Steam Mile" is set up on the shore: steam locomotives, historic steam tractors, steam-powered mills, and printing presses. Families can use this to physically introduce their children to the state of technology from 100 years ago — everything smells, smokes, and rattles.

Programme for the Whole Family

In addition to admiring the ships and the steam mile, there is a packed programme:

  • Boat trips on the Flensburg Fjord
  • Concerts on the NOSPA stage by the quay
  • Children's theatre with short performances (20 minutes each)
  • A large model building exhibition at the Maritime Museum
  • Low German church service on board the historic "Alexandra" on Sunday

Highlight on Friday: the grand fireworks display over the harbour at 11 p.m.

Flensburg — A Harbour City with Depth

The Flensburg harbour is not just a tourist postcard, but a vibrant maritime address. Several historic sailing ships, the Maritime Museum, and the well-preserved Nordertorkai form a unique backdrop for this festival. For three days, the harbour is steamy grey-blue, smells of wood, coal, and saltwater — and attracts over 100,000 visitors.

Dampf Rundum — edition 2026

Dampf Rundum 2026 runs from July 10 to 12 at Nordertorkai. Three days with boat trips, a steam locomotive, the NOSPA stage, children's theatre, a model building exhibition, and a grand fireworks display on Friday evening.

Festival Year 2026

2026 is a festival year — Dampf Rundum takes place every two years. The organisers have prepared a programme for three packed days, starting Friday afternoon and ending Sunday afternoon.

Three Days at the Harbour

Opening Friday at 6 p.m., the steamer regatta immediately follows at 7 p.m., fireworks around 11 p.m. — and then two more days of full programme with boat trips, live music, and children's theatre.
