International Environmental Photography Festival on the Baltic Sea
The Umweltfotofestival »horizonte zingst« is one of Germany's most significant photography festivals. Every year at Pentecost, it transforms the Baltic seaside resort of Zingst on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula into a centre for photography. The organiser is the Kur- und Tourismus GmbH Zingst.
Around 25 exhibitions featuring over 45 international photographers are spread throughout the town — on house walls, in halls, and in public spaces. The spectrum ranges from nature photography and documentary reportage to conceptual works. Each edition is dedicated to a central theme that combines environmental awareness and social issues with photographic excellence.
Every evening, the »Bilderflut« takes place on the beach: a large open-air projection of workshop results, interviews, and photo competition entries against the backdrop of the sea. Over 80 photo workshops and multi-vision shows in the multimedia hall impart knowledge and inspiration. A photo market presents new industry products and invites visitors to try them out.
Zingst is located in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, surrounded by the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. Its location between the Baltic Sea, the Bodden lagoons, and the dune forest makes the seaside resort an ideal backdrop for a festival that combines nature and photography.
From May 29 to June 7, 2026, the 19th Umweltfotofestival horizonte zingst will transform the Baltic seaside resort into a centre for photography. The central theme for 2026 is »MENSCH« (HUMAN) — humanity in its complexity as part of a larger whole.
Around 25 exhibitions will feature over 45 international photographers, including Daniel & Geo Fuchs (Toygiants), Zed Nelson (The Anthropocene Illusion), Richard Renaldi (Touching Strangers), and Robbie Shone (Cave Worlds). Every evening, the »Bilderflut« will take place on the beach. From June 4 to 6, the photo market will be open; over 80 photo workshops and multi-vision shows will complement the programme.
Many exhibitions in public spaces are free to access. Workshops, multi-vision shows, and individual programme items are subject to a charge. Information from the Kur- und Tourismus GmbH Zingst.
