"Inferno" — Musica Sequenza on Dante's themes in an Uckermark barn
Since 1992, the Uckermark Music Weeks have been among the most artistically distinguished classical festivals in Brandenburg. The festival is deliberately not anchored in a large concert city but moves across the venues of the Uckermark — one of Germany's most sparsely populated districts, characterized by forests, lakes, and brick churches. This combination of high-caliber programming and rural atmosphere is the hallmark of the Music Weeks.
Jakobshagen is a district of the municipality Boitzenburger Land in the Uckermark district. The municipality — formed from several villages around Boitzenburg Castle — is located in the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park. The concert venue on August 9, 2026, is a barn near Stumpf/Laspe in Jakobshagen — typical of the Music Weeks' concept, which uses precisely these rural spaces, often acoustically surprisingly good, as stages. An old Brandenburg fieldstone barn that becomes a concert hall for one evening.
The concert on August 9 is titled "Inferno." The ensemble Musica Sequenza, an internationally active ensemble under Burak Özdemir, combines Baroque instruments with contemporary percussion in a programmatically ambitious work on Dante's themes from the Divine Comedy. These crossover programs — early music meets modern — are characteristic of the Uckermark Music Weeks, whose motto is "early music and more.".
The journey to Jakobshagen is part of the experience: narrow country roads, small villages, wide fields, forests. Those coming from Berlin drive 90 minutes — and arrive in a world of sound that no urban concert hall can replicate. The concept of the Music Weeks is clear: to think of music and landscape together, in a region that would not reach festival scale in any other context.
As part of the Uckermark Music Weeks 2026 (August 1-23), the ensemble Musica Sequenza will perform on Sunday, August 9, at 4 PM in a barn near Stumpf/Laspe in the Jakobshagen district of the municipality Boitzenburger Land (Uckermark district).
The program "Inferno" combines Baroque instruments with contemporary percussion and musically interprets themes from Dante's Divine Comedy — an ambitious crossover concert in an atmospheric barn setting.
