From a Small Underground Format to a Hanseatic Institution
Founded in 2014, the Travejazz Festival has evolved over more than ten editions into one of Schleswig-Holstein's most important jazz events. It plays a key role in the contemporary music scene within the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the city of Lübeck – as an NDR Kultur partner, its influence extends beyond Northern Germany. You'll experience a festival that takes the musical diversity of jazz programmatically seriously: funk, soul, hard bop, free improvisation, and crossover projects stand side by side on equal footing.
Schuppen 6 — The Special Venue
The heart of the festival is Schuppen 6, a listed former warehouse directly on the Untertrave. Its raw brick architecture, the harbour panorama, and the natural acoustics make the hall one of the most atmospheric jazz venues in Northern Germany. Schuppen 6 is complemented by concerts in St. Petri Church, St. Jakobi Church, the Jazz Club Live CV, and on an open-air stage by the water.
What to Expect
- Four festival days with two to four concerts per evening
- Headliners from the international jazz calendar
- National acts from Germany with top-class ensembles
- Regional talents from the North German scene with their own Travejazz sponsorship award since 2016
- Open-air concerts by the harbour quay in good weather
- Church concerts with special acoustics
Organisation and Sponsorship
The festival is organised by the non-profit association Travejazz e.V. The main media partner is NDR Kultur. The Hanseatic City of Lübeck, the state of Schleswig-Holstein, and several foundations regularly support the festival. This structure enables a sophisticated programme with moderate ticket prices.
Lübeck as a Jazz City
With Travejazz, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (which also features jazz accents), and a vibrant club scene, Lübeck has established itself as a surprising jazz destination. The mix of Hanseatic old town, harbour flair, and an open cultural landscape creates the perfect setting for a festival that feels both urban and typically North German-relaxed.
