About Wine and Summer Festival

The Tornesch Wine and Summer Festival is a biennial event organized by the local heritage association, taking place every two years in front of and on the grounds of the historic Heimathaus (Ostermannscher Hof) on Riedweg. In 2026, the festival runs from June 26th to 28th. The concept is unusual: over 90 volunteers organize the entire festival — without sponsors and without advertising. This makes the Wine and Summer Festival a true community celebration for the town of Tornesch in the Pinneberg district, focusing on regional wine, togetherness, live music, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

A Festival Born from the Community

The Tornesch Wine and Summer Festival holds a unique position in the local festival culture of Schleswig-Holstein: it is organized entirely by volunteers — and is explicitly designed without sponsors and without advertising. Over 90 citizens of Tornesch are involved in its preparation and execution. This concept has been consistently maintained for years, making the festival one of the purest community events in the region.

Heimathaus and Heritage Association

The venue is the Heimathaus Tornesch, also known as Ostermannscher Hof — a historic thatched-roof farmhouse in the Esingen district. The heritage association maintains the farm as a meeting place and museum; during the Wine and Summer Festival, the courtyard and rooms open to visitors. The green Riedweg in front of the house becomes the festival grounds, with tables and benches under trees, a stage, wine stands, and food stalls.

Three Days of Programming

The festival traditionally spans the last weekend of June:

  • Friday evening — Kick-off with an opening ceremony, wine service, and relaxed live music
  • Saturday — Main festival day with all-day program: family attractions, live music, wine tastings, culinary delights from regional sources
  • Sunday — Winding down with a morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, and a quieter afternoon program

Wine Culture in Northern Germany?

At first glance, a wine festival in Tornesch might seem unusual — Schleswig-Holstein is not known for viticulture. However, the Wine and Summer Festival deliberately creates contrasts: regional wineries from German growing areas are represented, the selection is carefully curated, and wine culture is understood as a form of community lifestyle — not a tourist cliché.

Tornesch in the Pinneberg District

Tornesch is a small town of around 13,500 inhabitants in the Pinneberg district of Schleswig-Holstein, located on the northwestern outskirts of the Hamburg metropolitan region. The town celebrated its 20th anniversary of town status in 2025 (granted in 2005) — the Wine and Summer Festival is one of its most important traditional event formats.

Wine and Summer Festival — edition 2026

From June 26th to 28th, 2026, the Tornesch Wine and Summer Festival will take place at the Heimathaus Tornesch (Riedweg). Three days of wine, live music, culinary delights, and family programming, supported by over 90 volunteers — without sponsors and without advertising. Free admission. Organizer: Heimatverein Tornesch.

The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official event calendar of the town of Tornesch (tornesch.de). The festival runs every two years — the next edition after 2026 is planned for 2028.

The organizer is the Heimatverein Tornesch, which maintains the Heimathaus (Ostermannscher Hof) and organizes the festival independently.
