Four traditional annual markets in the Upper Palatinate town of Tirschenreuth β Easter Market, Peter-Paul Market, Autumn Market, and Michaelmas Market
In the Middle Ages, Tirschenreuth was the most important market town in the so-called Stiftland β the region that belonged to the Bishopric of Waldsassen and is now part of the Tirschenreuth district in the Upper Palatinate. Stemming from this historical significance, an official market calendar with four annual markets developed, which is still actively maintained today. Unlike many other small Bavarian towns that have abandoned their markets, Tirschenreuth consistently adheres to this classic format.
In addition to the four annual markets, the weekly market takes place every Thursday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the upper Maximilianplatz β offering agricultural products, garden items, and regional specialties. On Whit Monday, May 25, 2026, Tirschenreuth participates in the statewide Flea Market Day organized by Antenne Bayern: Over 80 private households in the town sell from their driveways and front gardens from 9 AM to 4 PM β a huge decentralized flea market encompassing the entire town.
In 2026, a city-wide late-night shopping event is planned for July, parallel to the Rizzi exhibition. Additionally, individual retailers can open for up to four additional evenings per year on weekdays from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM β registration with the citizens' office is required.
