30 Years of Knattermimen in the Klostergarten

The Theaternächte in the Klostergarten Kyritz are the most important summer cultural event in the district town of Kyritz (Ostprignitz-Ruppin district). Since 1997, the Kyritzer Knattermimen – an amateur theatre group of dedicated citizens from the region – have performed their own play every summer on the open-air stage in the garden of the Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz, the former 13th-century Franciscan monastery repurposed as a cultural centre. In 2026, the series celebrates its 30th edition.

"Legend of Evil" – Premiere in 2026

The anniversary play is titled "Legend of Evil" – a folk theatre play written for the Knattermimen with fantastic-historical elements from the Prignitz region. Like all Knattermimen productions, it is deliberately designed to be close to the people, humorous, and with local allusions, appealing to a broad audience of all generations.

Start each evening – exact time to be confirmed at the time of advance booking. In case of extreme bad weather, a substitute venue or postponement may be possible; however, steadfastness is considered a hallmark of the Theaternächte.

Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz – The Green Stage

The Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße 4 houses the city library, event halls, a café, and its own Klostergarten. In summer, this garden becomes an open-air stage – with rows of chairs under the open sky, a wooden stage in front of the monastery building, and catering provided by the Kloster café. The intimate atmosphere and the historic backdrop make the Theaternächte one of Brandenburg's most charming open-air theatre experiences.

Advance Booking and Tickets

Tickets exclusively at the Kultur- und Tourismusbüro Kyritz (Maxim-Gorki-Straße 32). The advance ticket price for 2026 has been reduced from the original €18 to €16 – those who have already purchased at the old price can get the difference back at the tourism office upon presentation of the receipt.

Kyritz – Small Town Charm by the Lakes

Kyritz (around 9,500 inhabitants) is a central town in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district and belongs to the Prignitz region. The old town with its half-timbered houses, monastery, and market square is located on the Untersee – one of the Kyritzer Seen (Kyritz Lakes). The Theaternächte are the highlight of the cultural summer calendar.
