The Kyritz Puppet Theatre Days transform the church and monastery garden of Kyritz into a stage for puppet, figure, and object theatre on August 1st and 2nd, 2026. For two days, ensembles from Brandenburg and all over Germany invite you to performances for children and adults, on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The venue is the Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße 4. The festival is organized by the City of Kyritz and the Kyritz Local Heritage Association, embedded in the rich club life of the small Prignitz town between Märkische Schweiz and Mecklenburg.

Puppet Theatre Days Kyritz — edition 2026

The Kyritz Puppet Theatre Days will take place on August 1st and 2nd, 2026, in the church and monastery garden of the Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz. On both Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, various puppet theatre ensembles will perform. The target audience is both children and adults. The organizers are the City of Kyritz and the Kyritz Local Heritage Association. Admission prices and detailed programme will be available on site or on the City of Kyritz website.

The Kyritz Puppet Theatre Days 2026 will take place on Saturday, August 1st, and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026. The venue is the church and monastery garden of the Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße 4, 16866 Kyritz.

Both days will be programmed from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Several puppet theatre ensembles from Brandenburg and all over Germany will present short performances – marionettes, hand puppets, figure, and object theatre will alternate. The complete programme with ensembles and performance times will be published shortly before the festival.

The organizers are the City of Kyritz in collaboration with the Kyritz Local Heritage Association.

Getting There

Train: Kyritz station on the Neustadt (Dosse)–Pritzwalk line. Around a 10-minute walk from the station to the monastery.

Car: A24 (Berlin–Hamburg), exit Neuruppin or Pritzwalk, then B5. Parking available in the town centre.

Puppet Theatre in the Historic Monastery Garden

The Kyritz Puppet Theatre Days are the summer festival for figure theatre in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district. On August 1st and 2nd, 2026, Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, various puppet theatre ensembles will perform in the church and monastery garden of the historic Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz.

The Kultur|Kloster|Kyritz at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße 4 is the heart of Kyritz's cultural activities. The former monastery with its green courtyard between the church and the monastery offers an intimate, historic atmosphere that is ideal for puppet theatre – short distances between stages, shady trees, and a warm summer ambiance.

Programme and Ensembles

The exact programme will be published shortly before the festival. Several puppet theatre ensembles from Brandenburg and all over Germany will present classic and contemporary plays, many explicitly for children, others as evening performances for adults. Marionettes, hand puppets, rod puppets, and object theatre will alternate. Numerous short performances will take place throughout the festival days – you can wander through the garden and let yourself drift from one performance to the next.

Kyritz — Knattermühlenstadt in the Prignitz

Kyritz an der Knatter in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district bears the nickname "Knattermühlenstadt" (Town of Knatter Mills) because of the old water mills on the Knatter stream. With around 9,000 inhabitants, Kyritz is a central town between Berlin (approx. 1 hour) and Rostock, and at the same time the gateway to the Märkische Schweiz in the south and the Prignitz in the north. The puppet theatre festival is part of Kyritz's rich summer cultural programme, which also includes the local heritage festival and the Klosterhof Market.
