Town Hall Storming and Proclamation of the Prince and Princess Couple at 11:11 AM on the Hauptmarkt Trier
Weiberfastnacht — the Thursday before Rose Monday — marks the start of the "hot phase" of the Rhenish-Mosellan carnival. In Trier, it is the first major public carnival day, on which women traditionally take over power in the city — symbolically during the "Town Hall Storming," where Trier's carnival-goers, led by the Prince and Princess Couple, "conquer" the town hall, and the Lord Mayor hands over the keys.
Afterwards, the new Prince and Princess Couple are officially proclaimed. The Trier Prince and Princess Couple for 2026 are Prince Tommy I. and Princess Lea I. — as is traditional in Trier carnival, a couple who represents the season together. Following the proclamation, the stage program begins: performances by established Trier carnival bands such as Leiendecker Bloas (brass and carnival classics), De Hofnarren (covers and Schlager), and De Schouuten (Rhenish party music) alternate with younger formats like domPiraten and FausT. DJ Rent A Sunshine ensures a continuous atmosphere between the live sets.
The Hauptmarkt is traffic-calmed throughout the event, with a central stage setup and catering stands.
The 2026 edition follows the classic format of Trier's Weiberfastnacht. The Prince and Princess Couple Tommy I. and Lea I. will be officially proclaimed; the lineup of stage acts includes a proven mix of established Trier carnival bands and younger formations. The event kicks off the hot carnival phase, which culminates in the Rose Monday parade on Feb 16th.
