Sommerfest with Lower Bavarian Identity

The Teisnacher Sommerfest is one of the most traditional summer folk festivals in the district of Regen, Lower Bavaria. For four days, the festival grounds on the outskirts of Teisnach market town become a hub for club life, folk music, festival atmosphere, and Lower Bavarian conviviality. The organizer is the Schnupferclub Teisnach, whose program gives the festival its special touch.

The Famous Preisschnupfen

The highlight of the festival is the Preisschnupfen, a tradition still practiced in Lower Bavaria and the Bavarian Forest. Schnupfen is about skill, enjoyment, and sociability: participants sniff snuff tobacco according to set rules, and prizes are awarded for special achievements. The Schnupferclub Teisnach is considered one of the most active snuffing communities in the region and organizes the Preisschnupfen for members, guests, and visitors.

Festival Tent, Bands, and Catering

In the large festival tent, bands from the Bavarian Forest and the wider region play for four evenings: brass music, dance bands, and party bands create the festival atmosphere. Bavarian delicacies such as Brathendl (roast chicken), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), and Bier vom Fass (beer on tap) from a regional brewery characterize the culinary offerings. Catering is provided by the Schnupferclub and friendly clubs.

Teisnach – Market Town in the Arberland

The market town of Teisnach is located in the heart of the Bavarian Forest in the district of Regen, nestled between the Großer Arber, Pröller, and the Danube plain. With around 3,000 inhabitants, Teisnach is an important center for research, technology, and tourism in the Bavarian Forest. The Arberland region around Teisnach offers numerous hiking trails, swimming opportunities, and cultural attractions.

Families, Clubs, and Folk Dancing

The Sommerfest has a distinctly family-friendly character: children's afternoons with games, a family day with reduced prices for amusement rides, and performances by traditional costume and folk dance groups from the Bavarian Forest complement the festival program. On Sunday morning, there is traditionally a Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music, which for many regular guests is the unofficial highlight of the weekend.
