Lakeside Festival at Tauperlitz Lake
Tauperlitz is a district of the municipality of Döhlau in the Hof district of Upper Franconia. The lakeside festival of the same name takes place at the Quellitzweg festival grounds directly on Tauperlitz Lake — a reservoir that has served as a local recreation area for the northern Frankenwald region since the 1970s. This direct location on the water distinguishes the festival from most Upper Franconian village and folk festivals.
ARGE as Organizer
The organizer is ARGE Tauperlitzer Seefest — an association of three local clubs: the BSC Tauperlitz sports club, the Tauperlitz volunteer fire brigade, and the shooting club. This joint sponsorship ensures a broad base of volunteer helpers for the festival and places tasks (festival tent, security, catering) in experienced hands.
Five-Day Volksfest Format
The festival runs for five days — from Thursday evening to Sunday or Monday — as a classic Bavarian Volksfest: a festival tent with live music, an amusement park with rides, game stalls, and culinary offerings with Franconian specialties (Bratwurst, Schäuferla, Bockwurst). The highlight is usually a parade with traditional costume groups, brass bands, and flag delegations from the Hof district.
Upper Franconian Volksfest Culture
Döhlau is part of the Hof district in the far north of Bavaria, on the border with Saxony and Thuringia. The Frankenwald character and proximity to the former inner-German border shape the region's identity. Volksfeste like the Tauperlitz Lakeside Festival are not just entertainment here, but also a symbol of civic cohesion in a rural area.
