A Wine Village in the Historic Kurpark
The Taubertäler Weindorf is one of the most charming wine festivals in the southern Tauber Valley. Over two days — Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8, 2026 — the Kurpark Bad Mergentheim transforms into an open-air wine village featuring stalls, live music, and culinary delights. The event is hosted by the Kurverwaltung Bad Mergentheim as part of their year-round cultural program in the park.
Württemberg Meets Baden — A Diversity of Wines
Bad Mergentheim is located in the southern Tauber Valley, right on the border between the two major wine-growing regions of Württemberg and Baden. The wine village takes advantage of this unique location to present an exquisite selection of wines from both regions:
- White wines: Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc/Gris, Weissburgunder
- Red wines: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder
- Regional rarity: Tauberschwarz — an ancient, nearly extinct grape variety cultivated exclusively in the Tauber Valley. It produces a light, fruity, and spicy red wine. This protected designation of origin has been replanted by a few dedicated winemakers.
Wines are served by the glass, with winemakers on hand to explain their craft directly at the stalls. It is a fantastic opportunity for wine lovers to explore the spectrum of Southern German wine culture in a single weekend.
Live Music and Atmosphere in the Kurpark
On both days, various bands provide musical highlights, typically featuring regional cover, jazz, and Schlager artists who accompany the wine with a relaxed summer soundtrack. The Kurpark Bad Mergentheim, with its avenues, fountains, pavilions, and mature trees, offers a charming backdrop that sets this wine village apart from typical tent festivals. You can sit in the shade or under the open sky, enjoy the music, and leisurely sample the region's wines.
200 Years of Healing Springs — Anniversary Year 2026
2026 is a special year for Bad Mergentheim: the city celebrates 200 years of healing springs (the first was discovered in 1826) and 100 years of spa status (granted in 1926). The 2026 Taubertäler Weindorf is part of this anniversary program and will be festively decorated, allowing you to experience a significant milestone in the city's history firsthand.
Bad Mergentheim — Spa Town in the Tauber Valley
Bad Mergentheim (Main-Tauber district, population approx. 24,000) is one of Baden-Württemberg's most important spa towns and home to the Deutschordensschloss, where the Teutonic Order held its headquarters for over 270 years. The healing springs (Karls-, Wilhelms-, Albert-, and Paulsquelle) provide mineral-rich water for drinking and bathing therapies. The Kurpark is the green heart of the city — a classically landscaped park with streams, pavilions, and an atmospheric blend of relaxation and elegance.
