Bad Mergentheim — Healing Springs and Teutonic Order
Bad Mergentheim is a town of around 24,000 inhabitants in the Main-Tauber district (state of Baden-Württemberg) — the capital of the Hohenlohe Tauber region and a renowned spa town since the 19th century. The town owes its reputation to the healing springs discovered in 1826 (Wilhelmsquelle, Karlsquelle, Albertquelle), whose medicinal water is prescribed for digestive and metabolic disorders. In 1926, Mergentheim officially became a spa town — hence the double jubilee of 200 years of healing springs / 100 years of spa status in 2026.
Historical Heritage — Town of the Grand Masters
Before its time as a spa town, Bad Mergentheim was the residence of the Teutonic Order — from 1525 to 1809, the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, one of the most influential Catholic knightly orders of the Middle Ages and early modern period, resided here. The Deutschordensschloss (Teutonic Order Castle, now a museum) on the edge of the old town, the Schlossplatz, and the baroque St. Mary's Church shape the cityscape and are naturally part of the town festival area.
Three-Day Festival Mile
The Stadtfest runs for three days, from Friday to Sunday, throughout the entire old town — Marktplatz, Hauptstraße, Schlossplatz, Gänsmarkt, Burgstraße. Several stages, catering stands run by clubs and restaurateurs, and a children's area will be set up. A packed program over the three festival days:
- Live Music on several stages — bands, cover artists, ensembles for all generations
- Catering with Franconian-Hohenlohe specialties: Tauber wines, bratwurst, schnitzel, tortelletti
- Sunday — Regional Day: Market stalls from Hohenlohe and the Tauber region offering regional products, crafts, and specialties
- Sunday open shopping day in the city center shops
- Family area with children's program
Double Jubilee 2026
The 2026 Stadtfest has a special occasion: it is part of the city's anniversary celebration 200 years of healing springs / 100 years of spa status. Special program effects are expected — special exhibitions, ceremonies, possibly a historical parade. The band The Uniques are also announced for Sunday evening, June 28, 2026.

The 2026 Stadtfest is part of the city's celebrations for the double jubilee of 200 years of healing springs / 100 years of spa status. It kicks off on Friday evening, June 26, 2026, with an opening on the market square, stage program, and catering by the clubs. Saturday, June 27, 2026, is all day with music on several stages, a family program, and culinary diversity from Hohenlohe and the Tauber region. Sunday, June 28, 2026, is Regional Day with market stalls from the entire region (Tauber wine, Hohenlohe specialties, crafts), and simultaneously a Sunday with open shops in the city center.
Confirmed for Sunday, June 28, 2026: A concert by The Uniques. Further bands and acts will be announced in advance by the Bad Mergentheim city administration.

You can reach Bad Mergentheim via the A 81 motorway (exit Tauberbischofsheim or Bad Mergentheim, approx. 10 km each) and the B 290 federal road. By train: Bad Mergentheim station on the Tauberbahn line (Würzburg–Stuttgart), about a 10-minute walk to the old town.
