Family-friendly Advent market with pyramid and nativity scene in Münster's Old Town
Münster's Old Town transforms into one of Germany's most famous Christmas market landscapes every Advent season. Five major Christmas markets within walking distance — Lambertikirchplatz, Kiepenkerl, Rathausinnenhof, Harsewinkelplatz, and Aegidiimarkt — form the renowned Münster Christmas Market Tour. The Aegidii Market is known for being particularly family-friendly, easily accessible, and offering high-quality culinary delights.
The landmark of the Aegidii Market is the magnificent, carved wooden pyramid in the center of the square. Every half-hour, it comes to life and plays its carillon — a magical moment that particularly fascinates children. This visual centerpiece is complemented by a large nativity scene, inviting Advent contemplation.
The stalls offer curated crafts and selected culinary treats. Among the vendors are Katharina Allwang (jewelry), Bernd Niggemeier (spices), and the Flammkuchen Hut (flame salmon cooked over an open fire). Mulled wine, hot chocolate, candied almonds, crêpes, chestnuts, and gingerbread complete the offerings.
The Aegidiimarkt is easily accessible via the Aegidii parking garage — a significant advantage for families with strollers, older visitors, and travelers from afar. From the parking garage, you can reach the market in two minutes and then conveniently explore all other Münster Christmas markets on foot.
Münster, located in the heart of the Münsterland region in North Rhine-Westphalia, is the cultural capital of the region as an independent city. The Old Town, with St. Paul's Cathedral, the Prinzipalmarkt, the historic Town Hall of the Peace of Westphalia, and its narrow pedestrian zones, provides an ideal backdrop for the Advent season. The Aegidii Market is part of this famous ensemble.
The 2026 edition runs for a month in Münster's Old Town. Consistent stalls and new special promotions complement each other: crafts, spices, jewelry, and the flame salmon stand remain core offerings. The exact stall allocation will be communicated via aegidii-weihnachtsmarkt.de.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and crafts are paid for directly at the stalls.
