Open-air dance performance in the museum park Ankershagen
Since 2022, the Dance Festival of the German Dance Company has established itself as a summer highlight in the event calendar of the Schliemann Museum Ankershagen. In early August, the park-like garden around the parsonage where Heinrich Schliemann grew up transforms into an open-air stage under the open sky.
The German Dance Company is a professional dance ensemble from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern based in Neustrelitz. The internationally composed ensemble moves stylistically between modern dance theatre, step dance, waltz, and neoclassical ballet. The choreographies combine historical and literary themes with contemporary dance language – from classical pas de deux to powerful group formations.
The themes of the summer editions consciously connect dance, history, and the spirit of the place. For example, the 2022 Dance Festival celebrated the 200th birthday of Heinrich Schliemann; in 2026, the program will be dedicated to a "Dance Journey into the Becoming and Being of Our Earth" – including a choreographed episode with the Little Prince visiting Ankershagen. The dance performance is embedded in a festive day with catering and snacks on site.
Ankershagen is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), about 15 km northeast of Waren (Müritz), on the edge of the Müritz National Park. The connection between dance art, Heinrich Schliemann, and the Mecklenburg lake landscape makes the Dance Festival a unique summer format in the region.
On Saturday, August 1st, the 2026 Dance Festival of the German Dance Company will transform the museum park of the Schliemann Museum Ankershagen into an open-air stage. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
The theme for 2026 is "Dance Journey into the Becoming and Being of Our Earth" – a choreographic journey through the origin and transformation of the planet, during which the Little Prince from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's work visits Ankershagen. The internationally composed ensemble combines modern dance theatre, step dance, waltz, and neoclassical ballet into a varied summer evening. From 5:30 p.m., bratwurst, snacks, and cold drinks will be available. In case of bad weather, the performance will be postponed to Sunday, August 2nd, 2026; tickets will remain valid.
Advance tickets €23, box office €25. Museum visitors with a dance ticket receive a 50% discount on museum admission from 4 p.m. Advance sales via schliemann-museum.de.
