The Syltlauf is one of Germany's most traditional landscape runs: 34.55 km from the northernmost tip of List to the southernmost tip of Hörnum, through the dune landscape and along the beach. In 2026, the 43rd edition will take place on March 15th. Over 1,400 runners participate — completely sold out within a few days of the sales launch. Travel (Evening Before)

By car via the Niebüll–Westerland car train, overnight stay in Westerland, then early to List on race day by bus or island transfer.

Sylt from North to South on Foot

The North Sea island of Sylt stretches for about 38 kilometers from north to south. The Syltlauf uses this geography for one of Germany's most spectacular landscape runs: 34.55 km from the northern tip of List to the southern tip of Hörnum — across the dune landscape, along the Wadden Sea, with constant views of the ocean. An island crossing as an athletic achievement.

History

The Syltlauf has been running since 1984. The 43rd edition in 2026 will take place on March 15th — deliberately outside the main season to avoid burdening the island and to let the runners start in the still-calm North Sea air. The organizer for years has been TSV Tinnum 66 with its volunteer Syltlauf team.

Route Description

The start is at 10:00 AM at the parking lot of the Weststrandhalle in List. The route leads from north to south — past the Listländer, through the dune landscape, through Westerland, Rantum, then towards Hörnumer Odde, finishing at Hörnum harbor.
