House and Tech House at the Concert Shell in the Kurpark
Sunset & Sound is a comparatively young festival: its premiere was in 2024. It brings House and Tech House as an open-air format to Wiesbaden's Kurpark – a cultural landscape usually associated with classical music and piano recitals. The venue is the historic Konzertmuschel (Concert Shell), where a specially developed 360° stage construction will be erected, allowing the audience to be oriented towards the stage from all sides.
The festival deliberately positions itself not as a festival machine with twelve stages, but as a one-day open air with a manageable number of visitors (around 4,500 guests), restricted age access (from 21 years), and a program that transitions from brighter House to harder Tech House sets over the course of the day. 'A party over which one doesn't need to shout because it speaks for itself' – this is the organizers' self-perception.
The 3rd edition on August 15, 2026, will feature six international DJs: Hannah Wants (Birmingham), Rebūke (Letterkenny, Ireland), Julia Sandstorm (Stockholm), Jazzy (Dublin), as well as Wiesbaden acts Parox and Der Lenzinger. The festival runs from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in an open-air format.
Wiesbaden's Kurpark, with its classicist Kurhaus, English-style park, and concert shell, is one of Hesse's most elegant open-air venues. Sunset & Sound opens this space to a different audience – younger residents of Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, and Mainz who are more accustomed to the club scene of Robert Johnson or the Bahnhofsviertel.
With Sunset & Sound, Wiesbaden is positioning itself as a city with contemporary electronic festival culture — a positioning that is quite surprising for a city with an already strong classical and theater identity (Hessisches Staatstheater, Maifestspiele, Rheingau Musik Festival). The festival marks a deliberate opening of Wiesbaden's cultural landscape to a younger, urban audience from the Rhine-Main region.
