About Amphitheater Open Air

The Amphitheater Open Air returns in 2026 to its unique venue after a three-year hiatus: the Roman Amphitheatre Trier, part of the UNESCO World Heritage and one of Germany's most monumental ancient performance spaces. Over two consecutive weekends in July, the approximately 1,800-year-old arena transforms into an open-air stage with six to eight top-class concert evenings across genres — from Schlager and Pop to Soul and Folk-Rock, Punk-Rock, and Classic Rock. The organizer is Popp Concerts. The concerts are among the most significant open-air events in the region, attracting audiences from all over Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Luxembourg, and France.

The Roman Amphitheatre Trier was built at the end of the 2nd century and could hold around 18,000 spectators in its heyday. Today, it is one of the best-preserved Roman structures in Germany and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. Its original function as a venue for gladiator fights and animal hunts is now museumized; at the same time, the arena serves as an extraordinary concert space with acoustics that transform any technical sound system into an overwhelming live experience.

The concert series has been successfully held several times but had to take a break from 2023 onwards for organizational reasons. 2026 marks the return in the World Heritage anniversary year — a deliberately symbolic resumption that connects Trier's ancient heritage with contemporary live music.

The 2026 lineup covers a broad spectrum of genres, combining top German acts like Giovanni Zarrella, Feine Sahne Fischfilet, and The BossHoss with international artists like Katie Melua, as well as regional stars like Versengold and Fury in the Slaughterhouse. Several concerts are already in high demand during the pre-sale.
