Traditional village festival in the town center — Musikverein Wolfenhausen
The Zwiebelberdafest is the annual village festival of the Neustetten district of Wolfenhausen (around 1,600 inhabitants) in the Tübingen district, at the transition from Schönbuch to the Albvorland. The organizer is the Musikverein Wolfenhausen e.V., which, together with the local clubs — sports club, fire department, rural women's association — sustains the festival weekend. Three days centered around the town center (Kirchstraße, Dorfplatz, multi-purpose hall) make Wolfenhausen an attraction for the region for a weekend.
The unusual name "Zwiebelberdafest" goes back to the local nickname for the residents of Wolfenhausen: "Zwiebelberden" or "Zwiebelberda". Like many old nicknames for Swabian villagers, the background is affectionately teasing — the Wolfenhausen residents were considered onion lovers or skilled onion farmers. The music association has proudly made the local nickname the festival name — a late-discovered Swabian peculiarity that makes the festival likeable and distinctive.
The Zwiebelberdafest follows the classic format of a Swabian village festival:
Wolfenhausen belongs to the municipality of Neustetten, which was formed in 1971 by the merger of the districts Wolfenhausen, Remmingsheim, Nellingsheim, and Wittershausen. With a total of around 4,000 inhabitants, Neustetten is a rural municipality in the Tübingen district, north of the university city of Tübingen, at the transition to the Schönbuch forest. Wolfenhausen is located slightly elevated and, with an old church tower and half-timbered buildings, is the historical center of the district.
In 2026, the Musikverein Wolfenhausen e.V. once again invites you to the traditional Zwiebelberdafest in the town center. Three days centered around Kirchstraße and Dorfplatz with the classic village festival program: opening on Saturday evening, Sunday morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, and festival conclusion on Monday.
The festival name derives from the local nickname for Wolfenhausen residents — the "Zwiebelberden" — making the festival distinctive in the Swabian village festival landscape.
Detailed program 2026 will be published by the Musikverein Wolfenhausen shortly before the festival on the club's website and the Neustetten municipality website.
