Six concept concerts with Berlin choirs in the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie
The Berlin Choral Association, founded in 1901, is the largest association of its kind in Berlin, with over 80 member choirs and several thousand active singers. The Sunday Concert Series has been one of its most prominent formats for decades and is traditionally held in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie – a venue considered one of Germany's best for choral music, both acoustically and visually.
Each concert brings together three Berlin choirs who revolve around a common theme. Instead of individual, unconnected choral performances, the choirs develop concept concerts with a dramaturgical arc, often prepared over several months. Sometimes the focus is on classical music, sometimes on pop, gospel, or contemporary compositions.
The 2026 series is designed as a jubilee program for the 125th anniversary of the Choral Association:
The diversity of the series reflects the spectrum of Berlin's choral life: Chamber choirs focusing on the Renaissance and modern eras, women's and youth choirs, gospel and pop ensembles, vocal bands. Anyone wanting to get a comprehensive impression of the Berlin choral music scene in one season has the opportunity here for six Sundays.
The 2026 series also serves as a jubilee program: The Berlin Choral Association celebrates its 125th anniversary. 18 choirs spread across six concerts, six distinct concept concerts, one shared format.
The choirs often prepare their contributions together for months, resulting not in three consecutive solo choir performances, but in a through-composed concert with a thematic link.
