About Neuschwanstein Concerts

In the courtyard of Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria's most famous landmark transforms into a unique open-air stage on several summer evenings. The Neuschwanstein Concerts present top-class classical music against the breathtaking backdrop of King Ludwig II's UNESCO World Heritage castle: sparkling chamber music, powerful orchestras, and outstanding world-class vocal soloists. The festival builds on the legendary castle concerts that took place in the Sängersaal from 1970 to 2015, continuing them as an open-air experience in the castle courtyard in Hohenschwangau – a fusion of tradition, modernity, and an incomparable atmosphere in the Allgäu region.

Classical Music Against a Royal Backdrop

The Neuschwanstein Concerts transform the courtyard of Neuschwanstein Castle into one of Germany's most spectacular open-air stages. The world-famous fairytale castle of King Ludwig II is located near Hohenschwangau in the municipality of Schwangau, in the Ostallgäu district of Bavaria – nestled in the Allgäu Alps.

A Tradition Revived

From 1970 to 2015, the legendary castle concerts took place in the Sängersaal of Neuschwanstein Castle. After a break, this tradition was re-established in 2024 as an open-air festival in the castle courtyard. Since then, sophisticated classical music has been performed outdoors on several summer evenings, embedded in the unique atmosphere of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

World-Class Artists

The program combines sparkling chamber music, powerful orchestras, and outstanding world-class vocal soloists. In past and upcoming editions, artists such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Jonas Kaufmann, Pretty Yende, and other international stars have performed and will perform. Each evening is conceived as an independent, cohesive composition of sound, space, and time.

More Than Just a Concert

  • Open-air concerts in the castle courtyard during the 'golden hour'
  • Romantic repertoire ranging from chamber music to grand opera
  • Included in the ticket price: free parking in Hohenschwangau and shuttle bus transfer to and from the castle
  • VIP options, family tickets, and discounts available

An Unforgettable Experience

The Neuschwanstein Concerts are far more than a classical concert – they are a holistic experience against a backdrop that King Ludwig II himself would have appreciated. Tradition and modernity merge to create tailor-made programs for Bavaria's most iconic location.
