Open-air concert series in the historic beer garden of the Bergisches Land
Looking for live concerts without the festival stress, without stadium distances, with real beer garden charm? SUMMERSTAGE at Haus Eifgen in Wermelskirchen is the answer. Over four months — from the end of May to the end of August — the Wermelskirchen cultural initiative brings seven hand-picked concerts to the open-air stage of a historic beer garden in the Bergisches Land. The atmosphere is intimate, the sound technically ambitious, the audience diverse.
Haus Eifgen is located in the Eifgenbach Valley, a small valley between Wermelskirchen and Burscheid in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. The inn has a tradition of over 200 years, and its associated beer garden is equipped with a concert stage every summer — a classic open-air setting under trees, with ample seating, a beer garden bar, and food from an upscale tavern kitchen. Those who want to secure seats should come early — the beer garden is limited to approx. 300 places.
The 2026 season covers the spectrum of popular live music broadly:
SUMMERSTAGE is organized primarily by Adrian Kunitz and the volunteer-run cultural initiative Wermelskirchen e.V. The initiative describes Haus Eifgen as a "cultural anchor point" for the region — and this is precisely the role the venue fulfills throughout the SUMMERSTAGE season. Despite competition from the 2026 Football World Cup in the USA, which partially overlaps with the concert dates, the 2026 program is fully booked again.
Wermelskirchen is a medium-sized town in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Cologne administrative district, North Rhine-Westphalia, with around 35,000 inhabitants. The town is located between Cologne and Wuppertal, in the heart of the Bergisches Land, a geographically distinctive low mountain range with a pronounced valley structure. The Eifgenbach Valley with Haus Eifgen is one of the most beautiful natural areas of the town — ideal for an open-air concert with potential for hiking on the same day.
The 2026 SUMMERSTAGE season is fully booked again, despite the parallel 2026 Football World Cup (USA). Seven concerts are spread over approximately three months, all as open-air concerts in the beer garden of Haus Eifgen.
The season kicks off on May 30 with Henrik Freischlader, Germany's most important contemporary blues guitarist — a highly regarded date in the scene. The finale on August 21 features Strange Kind of Woman, a Deep Purple tribute band with a great live reputation. Tickets via bergisch-live.de or directly at Haus Eifgen.
