Summer Concerts of the Churches Region Guben

A Journey of Sound Through the Region's Village Churches

The Evangelical Parish Region Guben — based at Kirchstraße 2 in Guben — is responsible for a dense network of village churches in the south of the Spree-Neiße district. The summer concert series uses these churches as concert halls, bringing classical music, church music, and folk song evenings into spaces that otherwise serve Sunday liturgy.

Seven Dates Between June and September

The 2026 season includes seven announced concerts between June 21 and September 12. The highlight is the choir concert in the Guben Monastery Church on August 16, 2026, which concludes the parish's 54th Choir Tour — one of the oldest choir tour traditions in Eastern Germany.

Folk Song Singing in the Parish Garden

A unique feature of the series is the folk song singing in the Atterwasch Parish Garden (Schenkendöbern) on July 8, 2026. Instead of a classical concert format, the event invites participants to sing together — song sheets are provided, and the community choirmaster accompanies on piano or accordion.

Venues in Several Villages of the Region

The concerts are spread across several venues: Groß Breesen Church (part of Guben), Atterwasch Parish Garden (Schenkendöbern), Pinnow Village Church (Schenkendöbern), Gustav Adolf Church Kerkwitz (Schenkendöbern), Guben Monastery Church (City of Guben), Grano Village Church (Schenkendöbern), and Atterwasch Village Church (Schenkendöbern). Each concert evening is closely linked to the atmosphere of its venue.

Guben and Schenkendöbern on the Neisse

The town of Guben (Sorbian: Gubin) lies on the German-Polish border along the Neisse River, opposite its Polish sister city, Gubin. The municipality of Schenkendöbern, north of Guben, is a sprawling area comprising numerous villages. The summer concerts highlight precisely this connection: an urban center, a dispersed settlement — and a concert network that culturally links both.
