Caribbean Beach on the World Heritage Market Square

The market square of Linz am Rhein is one of the most beautiful historic squares on the Middle Rhine. Colourful half-timbered houses, the town hall, the castle gate, and the market fountain characterise the UNESCO World Heritage ensemble. In the summer of 2026, this square will once again become the 'Strünzer Strand' – an urban beach landscape with deck chairs, umbrellas, palm trees, sandy areas, and sand toys for children. The name 'Strünzer' refers to the local nickname for Linz residents and clearly indicates the connection to the city.

Live Music on Saturday Evenings

The highlight of each festival week is Saturday evenings from 7 PM with live concerts by regional bands. The spectrum ranges from pop and rock to jazz, soul, indie, acoustic duos, and crossover formations. In 2026, Ton-Band20.11, Jazzyfied, Roses of Remedy, Fleur Earth, Straight Four, Band B42, A&Y Acoustic Duo, and Phase 3 are on the programme – a deliberately regional selection showcasing the musical talent of the area.

Family Programme

On three Sundays – July 5th, July 19th, and August 2nd, 2026 – the Familienschule Linz offers additional creative activities for children and families: crafting, painting, small workshops in a beach setting. This makes Strünzer Strand a cross-generational summer meeting point.

Strünzer Strand is more than just summer decoration – it's a meeting point for the people of Linz, day-trippers from the right and left banks of the Rhine (Andernach, Königswinter), hikers on the Rheinsteig trail, and short-term holidaymakers exploring the World Heritage Valley. Cafés, restaurants, and ice cream parlours around the square experience a peak season during this time.
