About Stullner Kirwa

The Stullner Kirwa is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the municipality of Stulln in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf. On the last weekend of August, the forecourt of the multi-purpose hall transforms into a classic Upper Palatinate festival ground: raising of the Kirwabaum (festival tree), traditional dance by the young Kirwa couples, music, draft beer, grilled sausages, and Upper Palatinate delicacies over three days. One of the familiar summer traditions for locals and guests from the Naabtal valley.

A Classic Upper Palatinate Kirwa

The Upper Palatinate is the homeland of the Bavarian "Kirwa" — over 700 municipalities, some with multiple Kirwa dates per year. The Stullner Kirwa is one of the firm summer traditions of the Schwandorf district: on the last weekend of August, organized by the municipality of Stulln in close cooperation with local clubs (Trachtenverein, Burschenverein, Schützen, Feuerwehr).

Kirwabaum, Kirwapaare, Bier

The program follows the Upper Palatinate Kirwa choreography, which is repeated with variations in almost every community in the region: Raising of the Kirwabaum (a tall, debarked spruce with a wreath and ribbons at the top), traditional dance by the "Kirwapaare" (young men and women in traditional costume who shape the festival as a couple), music by a local festival band, catering with draft beer, Bratwurst, Krautwickel (cabbage rolls), and Upper Palatinate delicacies. Three days of festivities on the forecourt of the Stulln multi-purpose hall.

Stulln in the Schwandorf District

The municipality of Stulln is located in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf, on the A 93 motorway between Regensburg and Weiden, about 60 minutes north of Regensburg. With around 2,000 inhabitants, Stulln is a typical rural Upper Palatinate community — with active club life, a church, a school, and a multi-purpose hall that serves as the central venue for the Kirwa, the KLJB anniversary (in 2026 in early June), and other club festivals.

Club Life as the Driving Force of the Kirwa

A Stullner Kirwa is not organized by professionals but by volunteers: members of the Stullner clubs set up the stalls, serve the beer, cook the food, and plan the program. The volunteer economy is key — and that's exactly what makes the event a reflection of the Stulln village community. Anyone attending the Kirwa will recognize everyone in the village after three days.

Stullner Kirwa — edition 2026

The Stullner Kirwa 2026 will take place from Friday, August 28th to Sunday, August 30th, 2026, on the forecourt of the Stulln multi-purpose hall. Three days of festivities with a program for families, older residents, and guests from the Naabtal valley.
