Traditional Upper Palatinate Kirchweih on the last weekend of August — Festival meadow on the forecourt of the Stulln multi-purpose hall in the Schwandorf district
The Upper Palatinate is the homeland of the Bavarian "Kirwa" — over 700 municipalities, some with multiple Kirwa dates per year. The Stullner Kirwa is one of the firm summer traditions of the Schwandorf district: on the last weekend of August, organized by the municipality of Stulln in close cooperation with local clubs (Trachtenverein, Burschenverein, Schützen, Feuerwehr).
The program follows the Upper Palatinate Kirwa choreography, which is repeated with variations in almost every community in the region: Raising of the Kirwabaum (a tall, debarked spruce with a wreath and ribbons at the top), traditional dance by the "Kirwapaare" (young men and women in traditional costume who shape the festival as a couple), music by a local festival band, catering with draft beer, Bratwurst, Krautwickel (cabbage rolls), and Upper Palatinate delicacies. Three days of festivities on the forecourt of the Stulln multi-purpose hall.
The municipality of Stulln is located in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf, on the A 93 motorway between Regensburg and Weiden, about 60 minutes north of Regensburg. With around 2,000 inhabitants, Stulln is a typical rural Upper Palatinate community — with active club life, a church, a school, and a multi-purpose hall that serves as the central venue for the Kirwa, the KLJB anniversary (in 2026 in early June), and other club festivals.
A Stullner Kirwa is not organized by professionals but by volunteers: members of the Stullner clubs set up the stalls, serve the beer, cook the food, and plan the program. The volunteer economy is key — and that's exactly what makes the event a reflection of the Stulln village community. Anyone attending the Kirwa will recognize everyone in the village after three days.
The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official website of the municipality of Stulln (stulln.de) and in the local press (Onetz/Der Neue Tag) for the weekend of August 28-30, 2026.
The Kirwa is organized by the municipality of Stulln together with the local traditional costume and youth clubs. The forecourt of the multi-purpose hall is the established festival location. Detailed times for the individual program points (festival opening Friday, Kirwabaum raising, traditional dance, festival catering) will be announced in advance in the Stulln local press and on local notice boards.
