55th Anniversary Parade of the Rot-Gold Schmetterlinge with Forest Stage Party in the Südeifel
The Sommerumzug (summer parade) of the KV Rot-Gold Schmetterlinge Ehlenz celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2026. In the heart of the Südeifel, the tranquil village of Ehlenz transforms into a colorful carnival stronghold one June evening as the traditional club kicks off its summer parade. Precisely at 6:11 PM, the procession of carnival floats, walking groups, music bands, and costumed participants from all over the Eifel region begins.
Following the parade, the atmosphere shifts to the Waldbühne (Forest Stage) Ehlenz, where a grand after-show party with live music continues into the night. Food and drinks are available on-site – a social highlight for the Bitburg region.
The carnival club Rot-Gold Schmetterlinge Ehlenz upholds a special Eifel tradition: summer carnival. While most carnival clubs concentrate their activities between November 11th and Ash Wednesday, the club from the 400-inhabitant village near Bitburg maintains a remarkable summer tradition. With its 55th anniversary parade on June 13, 2026, this unique form of Eifel Fastnacht (carnival) reaches another milestone.
Starting at 6:11 PM – a time reminiscent of the carnival magic of eleven – the procession sets off from the community center and winds its way through the main street of Ehlenz. Several dozen entries from carnival clubs of the Bitburger Land collective municipality and neighboring Eifel communities present elaborately designed floats, dance groups, marching bands, and walking groups. Kamelle (sweets), Strüssjer (small bouquets), and little gifts are generously thrown to the roadside, where families, neighbors, and carnival enthusiasts form an aisle.
Immediately after the parade, the Waldbühne Ehlenz transforms into an open-air dance floor. Live bands provide entertainment late into the night, while draft beer, cocktails, and hearty food from the festival catering complete the evening. The blend of carnival merriment and summer festival atmosphere makes this event in the Eifel unique.
The KV Rot-Gold Schmetterlinge was founded in 1971 in Ehlenz and is now a fixture in the Rhineland-Palatinate carnival scene. The club colors, red and gold, adorn uniforms, hats, and floats, while the butterfly, as the heraldic animal, symbolizes joy of life and transformation. Over the decades, the Sommerumzug has developed into a regional attraction that draws visitors far beyond the village borders.
The 55th anniversary of the KV Rot-Gold Schmetterlinge Ehlenz promises a particularly elaborate summer parade in 2026. With floats, dance groups, and walking groups from all over the Südeifel, the procession will wind its way through the village center starting at 6:11 PM. Afterwards, the Waldbühne will transform into a festival ground with live music, catering, and exuberant atmosphere late into the summer night. A must-attend event for carnival fans in the Bitburg-Prüm district of the Eifel.
