Street Food, Live Music, and Family Program at Bamberg's Maximiliansplatz
Maximiliansplatz is the most important square in Bamberg's city center—right by the New Town Hall, surrounded by shops, cafés, and restaurants, and with a view of the historic old town with the Cathedral, the Old Court, and Little Venice. For three days in April, around 20-30 food trucks and street food stalls line up here—a culinary world tour in a confined space.
Bamberg (around 78,000 inhabitants) is one of Germany's most beautiful small cities. The old town has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993—with Bamberg Cathedral (four towers, Bamberger Reiter), the Old Court, Little Venice (fishermen's houses by the water), the Old Town Hall in the middle of a river island, thousands of half-timbered houses, and many small breweries. Bamberg is the capital of Bamberg beer, especially Rauchbier (beer smoked over beechwood—a taste sensation). Anyone visiting the Food Truck Festival should take time to explore the old town.
The organizer is Funtastic GmbH from Fürth, which offers the Food Truck Festival as a touring format. The Bamberg edition is part of a 2026 festival tour that also includes stops in Donaueschingen and Bad Mergentheim, among others. Professional organization, curated truck selection, free admission—a proven concept.
Friday afternoon/evening for after-work dining, Saturday during the day for the full selection, Sunday for a more relaxed atmosphere. Mild weather is likely given Bamberg's April climate, but rain showers are also possible—don't forget a rain jacket. The food trucks are covered, and seating areas are partly shaded by umbrellas.
The 2026 Food Truck Festival in Bamberg transforms Maximiliansplatz in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage city into an international street food mile for three days. Organizer Funtastic GmbH presents around 20–30 food trucks and street food stalls — from burgers to pizza, sushi, and tacos to vegetarian and vegan options, plus sweets and drinks.
Live DJs and regional bands alternate on the festival stage throughout the event. For children, there's a large bouncy castle, face painting by Onirelia, and Henna tattoos for all ages. Adults can relax in the chill-out zone with cocktails. Free admission.
