Three days of city festival in the Muldental
Eilenburg is a small town on the Mulde river in the Nordsachsen district, about 25 km east of Leipzig. The town looks back on more than a thousand years of history; it is often associated with its castle, the Schlosskirche (castle church), and its location on the Mulde. The Stadtfest has been the most important date in the event calendar since the late 1990s — for three days, the old town is closed off, and the central squares become festival areas.
The concept relies on clear segmentation: The market square is the main stage with major acts from the pop, rock, and Schlager scenes. The Kornmarkt is a showcase for the Irish folk scene — an Eilenburg tradition, as the town has maintained partnerships with Irish bands for years. Torgauer Straße becomes the club mile: local clubs, sports clubs, and businesses present themselves here.
Classic city festival schedule, but with its own accents: Opening on Friday evening with keg tapping by the mayor, followed by an evening program, which in most years is opened by the Sparkle Cheerleaders Leipzig and concludes with DJ sets well after midnight. Saturday is the busiest day with club performances in the morning and the main national program in the evening. Sunday is dedicated to the Frühschoppen (morning pint) and family; traditionally, it concludes with fireworks and a bonfire at Butzbacher Platz.
Eilenburg is located directly on the Mulde river, which meanders through the landscape between Leipzig and Bitterfeld. The Nordsachsen district is one of Saxony's underestimated travel destinations — Wermsdorfer Forst, Hubertusburg Castle, the Muldental itself — and Eilenburg is a good starting point for a tour between the Leipzig Lowland Bay and the Dübener Heide.
The city center completely transforms into a festival mile: main stage on the Marktplatz, Irish folk stage on the Kornmarkt, club mile on Torgauer Straße. Highlights: Keg tapping on Friday, Modern Talking Reloaded and Steffen Lukas with Plattenbauorchester on Saturday, Frischluftprojekt and The Firebirds on Sunday. Fireworks and bonfire mark the festival's conclusion.
