District Music Festival — Brass Music as a Popular Movement
The Allgäu-Schwäbischer Musikbund (ASM) is one of Bavaria's largest brass music associations with over 200 clubs. Each year, a different club hosts the »Bezirksmusikfest« — a mix of a large folk festival, competition performances for the participating bands, and a parade. In 2026, this honor falls to the Oberostendorf Music Association, which is hosting the festival for the 69th time in the district's history.
Oberostendorf in Ostallgäu
Oberostendorf is a small Allgäu municipality in the Ostallgäu district (Bavaria), located between Kaufbeuren and Marktoberdorf. With around 2,000 inhabitants, the village has a very active music association that prepares the District Music Festival with great effort — the festival tent is erected two weeks before the festival and dismantled one week after it ends.

District Music Festival Tradition
The combination of folk festival, competition performances, and parade is typical of the Southern German brass music culture. While the clubs perform their pieces for judges during the day and collect ratings, the festival tent is the place for joint celebration in the evening. The star march on Monday — where several bands march into the festival tent from different directions — is living musical tradition.

District Music Festival 2026
The Oberostendorf Music Association confirms the 69th District Music Festival of the Allgäu-Schwäbischer Musikbund for June 11 to 15, 2026. The official ceremony with the district leadership will take place on May 30, setup begins on June 2, and dismantling until June 16.

Getting There
By car via the A7 exit Kempten-Süd or via the B12. By train to Kaufbeuren or Marktoberdorf, followed by a connecting service.
Admission
Thursday and Sunday/Monday free admission. Friday and Saturday €5 (before 7:30 PM/6:30 PM) or €10 (after). Tickets on site.
Families
The festival service and parade on Sunday are very family-friendly. Those coming with children are best catered for on Thursday (free) or Sunday.
