Westendorf — An Allgäu Village with Centuries of History

Westendorf is located in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu at an altitude of 680 meters and belongs to the Westendorf administrative district. Its districts include Westendorf (first mentioned in 1071) and the much older Dösingen, which dates back to Alemannic settlement around 500 AD. With just under 2,040 inhabitants (as of May 2025), Westendorf is a typical Allgäu municipality — with a primary school, modern childcare facilities, active club life (brass bands, theater groups, sports clubs), and a community spirit shaped by its associations.

Trachtenkapelle Westendorf as Organizer

The Trachtenkapelle Westendorf is one of the central cultural pillars of the village. It preserves the tradition of Allgäu-Swabian brass band music and performs at festivals in neighboring towns as well as at its own events. The village festival on July 3, 2026, is organized by the Trachtenkapelle together with the other local clubs — a typical club festival format: festival tent or meadow, service by club members, program of brass music, festival catering, family activities.

Program and Backup Date

A one-day village festival like the one in Westendorf follows a set rhythm: festival opening in the late afternoon or early evening, performance by the Trachtenkapelle and possibly invited guest bands from the Allgäu region, festival catering with Allgäu cuisine (Kässpatzen, Schäuferla, Bratwurst, cakes), and a cozy conclusion into the night. In case of bad weather, the festival will move to the backup date of Friday, July 10, 2026.

Allgäu Village Culture in Summer

Village festivals are the most important social anchor of summer in the Allgäu. They bring generations together, foster encounters between long-time residents and newcomers, and are often the only occasion of the year when the entire village gathers in one place. The proceeds go towards club activities — particularly for the Trachtenkapelle Westendorf, supporting the training of young musicians.
