When the Tannengrün youth club sets up the Kirwabaum (Maypole), it's Kirwa time in Steinberg am See: The Steinberger Kirwa is the traditional Upper Palatinate Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Tannengrün Steinberg youth club. For several days, the whole village celebrates at the festival grounds with a marquee, brass band music, the setting up of the decorated Kirwabaum, and the dancing of the Kirwapaare (Kirwa couples) in traditional costume – living customs in the Schwandorf district that bring young and old together in the Upper Palatinate Lake District.
