Franconian street wine festival on Kiesweg in the Saaletal
Wirmsthal is a tiny wine village in the Bad Kissingen district, in the far west of Lower Franconia. As a district of the market town Euerdorf, it belongs to the "Frankens Saalestück" region – the landscape between Schweinfurt and Bad Kissingen, where the Fränkische Saale meanders through vineyards and small wine-growing villages cherish their traditions.
The street wine festival is organized by the sports club SV Wirmsthal e.V. – one of the village's most traditional clubs, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026 (the club anniversary will be celebrated in June 2026 with the separate "Wirmsthaler Weinsommer", the street wine festival follows at the end of July). The voluntary work of the club is the backbone of this festival – it shows what a small village community can achieve.
Long tables and umbrellas are set up along the Kiesweg, a narrow street on the edge of the village. Only wines from local vintners and from the vineyards around Wirmsthal are served – Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Domina. Accompanied by Franconian specialties: Bratwürste, Schäufele, Zwiebelkuchen, Weinbergpfirsich-Liqueur. A real street festival atmosphere, without commercial brands, very family-friendly.
Accompanying live music from the region: acoustic trios, cover bands, occasional Schlager evenings. The atmosphere is relaxed, the audience is mixed – regular guests from Wirmsthal and Euerdorf, hikers exploring the Saaletal, wine fans from Würzburg and Schweinfurt. Anyone who wants to experience Franconia's wine culture beyond the major wine festivals in Würzburg or Volkach will find it here.
Wirmsthal is located on the Fränkische Saale, nestled in one of Bavaria's most beautiful wine landscapes. Those who stay longer can hike the Saaletal, visit the spa town of Bad Kissingen (8 km), or explore Schloss Aschach (former noble residence with a park). Its location between the Mainfranken and Rhön-Saale-Tal wine regions makes Wirmsthal an authentic insider tip.
From July 31 (2 PM) to August 3 (12 PM), 2026, the Kiesweg in Wirmsthal will once again transform into a Franconian wine mile. Organizer SV Wirmsthal e.V. has confirmed the date; the road closure is officially ordered by the administrative community of Euerdorf. A special year: SV Wirmsthal celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026.
