About Strahlunger Meile

In Strahlungen, a village of 1,200 inhabitants in the Rhön-Grabfeld district of Lower Franconia, the village center transforms into a mile of indulgence for one weekend every two years. Three historic wine cellars open their doors for wine tastings, complemented by beer stands, Franconian delicacies, a craft market, and live music on several stages. Organized by the Strahlungen association ring – meaning all local clubs and associations work together. Free admission. The 6th edition in 2026 coincides with the 10th anniversary of the village community.

Village Community as Organizer

The Strahlunger Meile is a prime example of a festival supported by the entire village: organized by the Strahlungen association ring, a coalition of all local clubs (fire department, sports, music, church, gardening, and heritage associations). Each association manages a stand or a program item, with proceeds benefiting the village community. 2026 marks the 6th edition – and simultaneously the 10th birthday of the village community.

Strahlungen and Rhön Viticulture

Strahlungen is located on the edge of the Bavarian Rhön in the Rhön-Grabfeld district (state of Bavaria), a few kilometers from Bad Neustadt an der Saale. The region was historically characterized by small-scale farming and viticulture – to this day, three historic wine cellars can be found in the village center, which are only opened for special occasions like the Meile. This very piece of cultural history is the heart of the festival.

What's on Offer

  • Three historic wine cellars: Tastings of selected Franconian wines
  • Mile of Indulgence: Beer stands, roast chicken, sausages, Franconian roast pork
  • Craft Market: regional potters, blacksmiths, basket weavers, felt artists
  • Cocktail Bar: evening program
  • Children's Area: Carousel, mini excavators, activity stand
  • Live Music: several bands and duos on rotating stages
  • White Sausage Breakfast: Sunday tradition to kick things off

Atmosphere

In the evening, the village center is atmospherically illuminated – the old sandstone walls, the wine cellars, and the village church create a backdrop that is rarely found even in the larger towns of Lower Franconia. Sales are conducted with village-typical tokens, and admission is free.

Strahlunger Meile — edition 2026

Three historic wine cellars, Franconian catering, a craft market, and live music will characterize the weekend. Sunday from 10:30 AM with Weißwurstfrühstück (white sausage breakfast).
