100th Anniversary of the Großenwiehe Riding and Driving Club

Equestrian Tradition Since 1926

The Großenwiehe Riding and Driving Club (RuFV) e.V. was founded in 1926, making it one of the oldest riding and driving clubs in Schleswig-Holstein. It was formed in its current structure in 1952 from the merger of several predecessor organizations, but its roots reach back 100 years — the reason for the grand anniversary celebration in 2026.

Großenwiehe — A Geest Community with a Horse Tradition

Großenwiehe is a municipality in the Schafflund office in the north of the Schleswig-Flensburg district, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. With around 1,500 inhabitants, the community is located in the typical North Frisian Geest — a region of horses and agriculture between Flensburg and Niebüll. The Großenwiehe riding facility and the associated Kleinwiehe cross-country park are the club's centers.

Anniversary Program May 30, 2026

The anniversary celebration is designed as a family event — from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a relaxed Saturday event with a club program, riding demonstrations, and a children's program. Planned activities include:

• Riding and driving demonstrations from the club's various disciplines (dressage, show jumping, vaulting, driving)
• Club program with a celebratory speech and recognition of long-standing members
• Children's program with pony rides and craft activities
• Catering — coffee and cake from the club, barbecue stand, drinks
• Opportunity to visit the riding facility and the Kleinwiehe cross-country park

Embedded in a Strong Equestrian Region

Schleswig-Holstein has been one of Germany's most important equestrian regions for decades — with the Holsteiner horse as a renowned sport breed and numerous riding tournaments at state and federal levels. The RuFV Großenwiehe is part of this network; the 100th anniversary reflects not only the club's history but also the importance of rural riding clubs for the identity of Schleswig-Holstein.
