Discover the Geest — on foot or by bike
Lindewitt is located in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, in the transition zone between the North Frisian marshland and the rolling Schleswig Geest with its gentle hills, mixed forests, and moors. The landscape is a classic hiking area — and this is precisely where the Wanderfreunde Lindewitt e.V. organizes its Geestmarsch every year.
A club with 50 years of experience
Founded in 1974, the club currently has 156 members and organizes at least three hiking days a year, making it one of the reliable hiking clubs in Northern Germany. On the permanent hiking trail in Schafflund, hikers can cover 7 or 12 kilometers year-round, and weekly group hikes take place on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM. The Geestmarsch is the club's annual highlight.
Disciplines and routes
Several routes are offered concurrently on both festival days:
- Marathon Hike 42 km (Saturday, start 7:00–8:00 AM) — the premier discipline through the Geest
- Popular Hike 20 km (both days)
- Bike Tour 5 km / 10 km / 30 km (both days)
All routes are IVV- and DVV-recognized — participants can fill their stamp cards. The club ensures good signage, refreshment stops along the way, and an appropriate pace.
More than sport — a community
What makes the Geestmarsch special is the combination of sport and camaraderie. 'Hiking allows everyone to take a break from everyday life,' as the club puts it. At the start and finish — the school grounds of the Schule am Wald, Flensburger Straße 2 — the club provides refreshments, seating, and a place to meet. In the state of Schleswig-Holstein, district of Schleswig-Flensburg, the Geestmarsch is one of the oldest popular hiking traditions.
