The intercultural meeting festival on the Aschaffenburg Volksfestplatz
The Fest für Vielfalt is one of the most traditional intercultural festivals in the Bavarian city of Aschaffenburg (Lower Franconia). For over 40 years, it has brought together people of diverse nationalities, religions, and backgrounds on the third weekend of July on the Volksfestplatz for a three-day festival of encounter. Until 2024, the event was named “Brüderschaft der Völker”; for its 40th anniversary, it was renamed “Fest für Vielfalt” — the programme and concept remained the same.
On several stages, young artists, established groups, dance ensembles, choirs, and DJs present a varied programme. Associations and initiatives from Aschaffenburg introduce themselves on the Walk of Cultures and offer culinary specialities from all over the world. Exhibitions, a book flea market, and meeting spaces invite exchange.
A large area is dedicated to the youngest visitors: crafting activities, face painting, juggling, bouncy castles, and play equipment make the festival a destination for families. Free drinking water stations and Wi-Fi complement the offerings.
The focus is on getting to know other cultures, breaking down prejudices, and recognising commonalities. Nationalism, fanaticism, party campaigning, and religious proselytising are explicitly unwelcome at the festival — the motto is: “Everyone is different. Everyone is welcome. Everyone can participate.”
The festival is organised by the Stadtjugendring Aschaffenburg in cooperation with the City of Aschaffenburg and the participating cultural groups. The organisation is voluntary, and admission is free. Aschaffenburg is located in the far west of Bavaria on the Main river, in the Landkreis Aschaffenburg or as a district-free city in the Bavarian Untermain region.
From July 17 to 19, 2026, the Aschaffenburg Volksfestplatz will once again transform into a place of encounter. It is open on Friday from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM, on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and on Sunday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
On several stages, local and international groups will perform, associations will present themselves on the Walk of Cultures with culinary specialities, and an extensive children's programme with crafting activities, bouncy castles, and play equipment will round off the festival. Admission is free on all three days.
Admission to the Fest für Vielfalt 2026 is free on all three days. Food and drinks from participating groups will be sold on site.
The Aschaffenburg Volksfestplatz can be reached directly by bus lines 3 and 6 (stop “Stadtbad”). 400 bicycle parking spaces are available for visitors; there are no car parking spaces on site for visitors — travel by bus or bike is recommended.
Admission to the festival is free on all three days.
Friday 6:00 PM–1:00 AM, Saturday 2:00 PM–1:00 AM, Sunday 12:00 PM–8:00 PM.
