Brandenburg Museum and Kutschstallhof — A Historic Setting
The Brandenburg Museum for Future, Present, and History is located at the Neuer Markt in the historic center of Potsdam, in close proximity to the Stadtschloss and the Alter Markt. The museum comprises several historic buildings, including the former Marstall and the Kutschstall — a former carriage house, now used as an event venue with its courtyard (Kutschstallhof). The historic vaulted architecture makes the courtyard an ideal backdrop for a Christmas market.
German-Polish Encounter as a Concept
The Sternenmarkt is the central Polish Christmas market in Brandenburg and one of the most well-known in Germany. Initiated by the Brandenburg Museum in cooperation with the agency deutschundpolnisch, it embodies Brandenburg's special German-Polish relations — as a state bordering Poland, with cultural, economic, and personal ties since reunification. In 2026, the market celebrates its 21st edition.
Polish Artisans and Specialties
Polish artisans gather at the Sternenmarkt with:
- Nativity figures (Szopki Krakowskie — traditional Krakow nativity scenes)
- Amber jewelry from the Baltic coast
- Handmade wooden toys
- Pisanki (artistically painted eggs)
- Christmas decorations in the Polish tradition
- Polish specialties: Pierogi, Bigos, gingerbread from Toruń, Polish sausages, vodka, mulled wine (Grzaniec)
Sternenfest — Dance, Theatre, Music from Poland
Parallel to the market, the Sternenfest takes place with a cultural stage program: Polish dance groups, theatre ensembles, choirs, concerts. A Christmas workshop for children runs continuously — crafting, baking, singing with German-Polish guidance. The museum's historic vaulted hall becomes a meeting place for discussions and workshops.
Admission: €3.50 — incl. Museum and Guided Tour
Admission is only €3.50 per day, children up to 14 years free. The ticket includes access to the Brandenburg Museum and guided tours on Saturdays/Sundays. This makes the Sternenmarkt one of the most affordable cultural Christmas market combinations in the Berlin metropolitan area — and at the same time, a true Brandenburg insider tip away from the overcrowded city markets.
