About Marienstatt Abbey Concerts

The Marienstatt Abbey Concerts 2026 are the annual concert series of the Marienstatter Musikkreis in the Gothic abbey church of the Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt in the High Westerwald. The summer highlight on July 31st, 2026 is the Organ Night with Illuminations at 8:45 PM, a concert and light experience that stages the architecture of the medieval monastery church in a special way. In September the Organ Triduum follows (September 6th, 11th, 13th) and on September 27th a chamber choir concert. On October 11th, a male choir from Augsburg performs at the abbey. Concert culture and sacred space form a special bond in Marienstatt.

Cistercian Abbey and Concert Venue

The Abbey of Marienstatt in Streithausen, Rhineland-Palatinate, is one of the most important Cistercian abbeys in Germany. Its Gothic abbey church, built from 1227 and consecrated in 1324, is considered one of the finest examples of Rhenish Gothic. The outstanding acoustics of the high church space and the historic organ make Marienstatt a cherished concert venue, where sacred music, organ literature and choral singing find an appropriate forum. The concert series is run by the Marienstatter Musikkreis, which curates the events and organizes them in close coordination with the convent.

Organ Night with Illuminations on July 31st

The most spectacular program item of the 2026 season is the Organ Night with Illuminations on Friday, July 31st at 8:45 PM. The nighttime staging combines organ literature with a lighting design that bathes the Gothic architecture in atmospheric light. This combination of sound and space has become a signature event of the Marienstatt series.

Organ Triduum in September

In September, the Organ Triduum dedicates itself in concentrated fashion to organ literature over three concert evenings (Sunday September 6th, Friday September 11th and Sunday September 13th, 2026). Renowned organists shape programs that illuminate the range of organ music from the Baroque to the modern era and exploit the sound possibilities of the Marienstatt organ to the full.

Choral Concerts and Male Choir

On Sunday September 27th, 2026, a chamber choir performs at the abbey. On Sunday October 11th, 2026, a choral concert by the Augsburg male choir follows. Both concerts expand the series with vocal soundscapes and create a bridge to the sacred purpose of the space.

Marienstatt in the High Westerwald

The Abbey of Marienstatt is located in the small municipality of Streithausen in the Hachenburg administrative community. It can be reached via the B 414. Pilgrims and concert visitors appreciate the location in the High Westerwald, which gives the abbey a place of peace and reflection.
