Sound from Stone
Steinklang is a concert series that has existed since 2009, conceived as a “resonant calling card of the city” of Augsburg. The focus is on extraordinary stone instruments – Gramorimba, Steinharfe, and Steingong – developed by instrument maker Rudolf Fritsche. Compositions by Wolfgang Lackerschmid, written specifically for the acoustics of the space, are performed on them.
The Dominikanerkirche as a Sound Space
The concerts take place in the historic Dominikanerkirche Augsburg, for whose acoustics the music was originally composed. During the restoration of the listed building, the series was hosted at various locations in Augsburg – since its return to the Dominikanerkirche, it once again unfolds its original spatial sound.
Concert with Guided Tour
The format combines a guided tour of the Dominikanerkirche (by Regio Augsburg) with the subsequent concert by the Steinklang Percussion Ensemble. Should there be any absences within the ensemble, Wolfgang Lackerschmid will perform solo on the Gramorimba. This creates a compact, approximately 40-minute sound experience in the historic church space.
Location in Augsburg
Augsburg is an independent city in the state of Bavaria and, with over 2000 years of history, one of Germany's oldest cities. The Dominikanerkirche in the city center is one of the significant cultural sites. Steinklang combines this heritage with contemporary sound art.
