Steele Karibisch — Beach Festival
Beach festival on Kaiser-Otto-Platz in Essen-Steele with white sand and Caribbean music
2026
About Steele Karibisch
Steele Karibisch — edition 2026
What awaits you
Kaiser-Otto-Platz will be completely transformed into a Caribbean beach landscape — with white sand, palm trees, beach chairs, and bars. Live bands like Furumba and Latino Total will provide the audience with Salsa, Cuban, and Brazilian rhythms.
Adults and Families
During the day, the festival is clearly family-oriented (beach volleyball, treasure hunt, Caribbean cuisine), while in the evening it gains party momentum with live music and a cocktail bar.

Caribbean in the Ruhr Area
The concept of "Caribbean Festivals" is one of the most charming summer inventions in North Rhine-Westphalia: a complete Caribbean beach landscape is staged in the central squares of medium-sized and large cities, with white sand, palm trees, beach chairs, Caribbean bars, and live bands. For three days, the everyday life of the Ruhr area disappears — and that is exactly the promise that Steele Karibisch in Essen fulfills.
Three Days of Caribbean Atmosphere
Organized by "Beach-Projekt" (Street Beach Festivals), which organizes similar festivals in around 20 cities during the NRW summer season in 2026, Steele is one of the largest and best-attended stops. Kaiser-Otto-Platz in the middle of Essen-Steele offers the ideal size for a production with several beach volleyball courts, several bars, and a complete stage for live bands like Furumba or Latino Total.
Program Components
- Caribbean Live Bands daily — from Salsa to Cuban rhythms to Brazilian sounds
- Rum Tasting for adults (Friday 4:30 PM, €25, 10 Caribbean rums with expert explanations)
- Treasure Hunt for Children on Sunday — "the finder keeps the treasure"
- Beach Volleyball Tournament in 2-on-2 formations, amateurs and professionals welcome
- Cocktail Bar with Frozen Aperol, Caipirinha, Pina Colada, and much more
- Caribbean Cuisine — grilled fish, jerk chicken, plantains
Essen-Steele in the Eastern Ruhr Area
Steele is a district in the east of Essen, easily accessible by S-Bahn (S1, S3, S9) and with a historical past as its own city before incorporation. Kaiser-Otto-Platz is the central forum of the district and one of the most vibrant meeting points in the eastern Ruhr area. The Caribbean Festival fits into the dense event calendar of the city of Essen — alongside Steeler Karneval and the classic Steeler Weihnachtsmarkt.
