Community festival with art alley on the historic village square
Stahnsdorf, the municipality south of Berlin right on the city border (Potsdam-Mittelmark district), has created its own town festival format with the Stahnsdorfer Familienfest. Since 2015, the municipal administration has been inviting people to the village square – the historic town center around the village church – every September for a family festival with a musical and artistic program.
The unique selling point since 2023: the Art Alley. Along the main path at the village square, regional artists from Stahnsdorf, Kleinmachnow, Teltow, and the southern Berlin surrounding area present their works – painting, sculpture, photography, installation. The Art Alley is open, free, and turns a stroll between the stage and the food stalls into a small exhibition opening.
The classic family festival program: a varied stage with music, dance, and talk rounds, bouncy castles for the little ones, bungee trampolines and aqua-zorbing as spectacular attractions, plus presentations by local clubs (daycare centers, youth centers, sports clubs). Radio TEDDY is regularly on site. Culinary delights: regional specialties, street food, ice cream, and sweets.
With the family festival, Stahnsdorf is consciously positioning itself against the growing anonymity of the Berlin commuter belt communities. The festival serves as a meeting point and identity builder – and from 2026, it will be the venue for the public award ceremony of the new Stahnsdorf "Zaunplakette für Naturgärten" (Fence Plaque for Natural Gardens), an award for ecological commitment in one's own garden.
The family festival is a firm fixture in Stahnsdorf's late summer calendar. The proven mix: stage, food stalls, children's attractions — and the Art Alley as a cultural bonus. For the first time in 2026, the "Zaunplakette für Naturgärten" will be awarded to Stahnsdorf citizens who garden ecologically. The municipality thus combines the family festival with a message of climate protection.
