Community Garden Festival

Stahnsdorf, a municipality in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district southwest of Berlin, has established itself as a pioneer of ecological garden culture in Brandenburg in recent years. The Stahnsdorf Garden Festival, now in its 4th edition in 2026, is a testament to this commitment: it brings together citizens, nurseries, nature conservation associations, and the municipal administration for a months-long series of events focused on natural gardens, insect protection, native plants, and biodiversity.

Kick-off on March 21, 2026 – Spring Festival

The festival begins on the first day of spring, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11 a.m., with a Spring Festival at the Kienwerder Nature Kindergarten. A family program with a plant swap, a small market, and opening lectures will usher in the festival season.

Workshops, Lectures, and Open Gardens

Over the following months, program items will take place at irregular intervals:

• Workshops on perennial propagation, creating herb beds, and garden design with the volunteer Blühteam
• Lectures on insect-friendliness, native plants, soil cultivation, and garden composition
• Open Gardens – dedicated Stahnsdorf residents open their private natural gardens to visitors
• Plant and seed exchanges
• Excursions to nature reserves and exemplary gardens in the region

New in 2026 – Natural Garden Fence Plaque

For the first time in 2026, the municipality of Stahnsdorf will award the Natural Garden Fence Plaque: an official recognition for private gardens designed according to criteria of insect-friendliness, biodiversity, and ecological management. The plaque can be displayed on the garden fence, visibly demonstrating that a piece of living nature is being cultivated here.
