Münsterland Advent around the Church

The Stadtlohn Christmas Market has its firm place in the Münsterland Advent calendar: annually on the third Advent weekend, the area around St. Otger Church transforms into an atmospheric market mile with around 40 stalls. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Stadtlohn e.V., which organizes the market as a town festival with club participation.

Four Dozen Stalls — Crafts and Homemade Goods

The market offers showcase the town's craft and club landscape:

• Christmas decorations — candles, stars, jewelry
• Nativity scenes — handmade nativity figures and scenes
• Homemade goods — cookies, liqueurs, Amigurumi (crocheted figures)
• Club stalls — culinary offerings from local clubs
• Drinks — mulled wine, punch, hot juice

Ice Stock Sport Championship as a Highlight

A Stadtlohn specialty: In front of the historic town hall, a 15-meter artificial ice rink is set up for the Christmas market, where the ice stock sport championship takes place. Over 200 athletes from regional teams compete against each other in the curling-like discipline. This makes the Stadtlohn Christmas Market sportingly and popularly distinct from most Münsterland Christmas markets.

Program and Opening Hours

• Long Saturday — extended shopping until 6 p.m.
• Sunday with extended shopping hours — 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
• Storytelling, puppet theater, live music by small ensembles
• Weekly market relocated to the bus station during the festival

Stadtlohn is located in the Borken district in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the far west of Münsterland, on the Dutch border. The medium-sized town has a strong Catholic tradition (St. Otger Church as a landmark) and a lively club scene — both components shape the Christmas market. The market is one of the most important Advent events in western Münsterland.
